I'm still working on the customized navigation strip for the comm, but in the meantime, here's a small update:

Jump SQ #12, to be released on November 4th, will feature both Chikahito and Hana on the cover! (This is technically the first Gate 7 illustration with Chikahito in color, excluding the first page of Volume 1.) The magazine will also come with a second cover for Volume 2, which is the same illustration with its original blue background. Weirdly, CLAMP-net has not yet updated with the actual cover of Volume 2.

Alternate cover for Gate 7, Volume 2

Much thanks to chibiyuuto for the news!
We're currently testing out a new layout that both emphasizes the informational links and showcases the main cast of the series, since the last one was more difficult to work with in terms of customization. If you strongly preferred the old one, have difficulty reading the new one, want a different color scheme, or want a different layout entirely, please let me know! Any comments are appreciated, even if they're just "Blargh, this hurts my eyes!"

ETA: Here is a list of changes made thus far to the layout.Collapse )

Several Gate 7 goods are being sold at the ongoing CLAMP Festival in Tokyo; the full list of goods can be seen here. If you'd rather that the images below be placed under a cut, please tell me and I'll fix the coding right away!

A "deskpad."

Keychain sets: lotus, cherry, mandarin, and...sunflower?

A phone strap.

Hand towels! Tokugawa Iemitsu can finally wash his hands of the Urashichiken.

Postcards from the manga.

A tapestry, hopefully made of cloth.

A mug, listed mysteriously as a "mug-cup."

A bookmark, listed mysteriously as a "bookmark."

Gate 7's sprite roster in the CLAMP@MOBILE section now includes Tachibana and Sakura, who come with their outfits from the splash page of Chapter 4. A special prize will be given to the person who dresses them up in the most humiliating outfits possible.

CLAMP-NET's long-lived "Loft" section was updated to include Hana, Chikahito, Tachibana, and Sakura icons...for your desktop. (The prospect of having Hana open Word for you is thrilling, I know!) You can download the full set of icons for either Windows or Mac here.
The website for MOON SAGA: The Mystery of Yoshitsune, a multimedia collaboration between CLAMP and the highly-popular singer GACKT, opened yesterday. Tickets are now being sold for the live stage productions; in the future, CLAMP will draw a manga for the project, while there are additional plans for an animated series, video game, and film (which could be either animated or live-action, we don't know). Several of the companies involved in the project have worked with CLAMP in the past, including the publishing house Kodansha and PYROTECHNIST (which produced the second CLAMP in Wonderland video).

Gackt by CLAMP

As to why these news are being cross-posted here: the project bears a notable similarity with Gate 7, appearing to be a beautification rewriting of a popular subject in Japanese history (here Minamoto no Yoshitune of the Heian period). (As with the shady circumstances behind the deaths of Oda Nobunaga, Akechi Mitsuhide, and other Gate 7 characters, CLAMP is likely taking advantage of the myths surrounding Yoshitune to rework his story as they please.) While many of Gate 7's characters come from the Sengoku and early Tokugawa periods -- several hundred years after Yoshitune's death -- there may be crossovers between the two series in the future, as time differences have never deterred CLAMP from mixing their universes.

Thanks to chibiyuuto and the folks at clamp_now for the information!

In community news, I will try to update the character pages as soon as I can. I'm back in my home country with plentiful Internet connections, but have been at a loss for time due to getting everything in order at university -- I'm sorry!

The MOON SAGA website included something interesting in CLAMP's bio: according to UNESCO, CLAMP as a single entity was the 10th most-widely-translated author in Japan as of 2010. The more you know!

Hey guys, first time poster (I think) in the comm.

I'm really excited that Clamp is doing this kind of manga again. I'm usually not a fan of their more cutesy stuff and gravitate towards their more X-like urban fantasy (action, adventure, magic etc). I like the concept of Gate 7 so far, but I'd be lying if I said I understood what was going on lol. Is there ANYWHERE I can go to to find an in depth summary of the whole manga so far - plot, characters, and the conflicts etc. I tried tvtropes but no luck. Also I don't believe there's anything on wiki.

Also, what do you all think of gate_seven so far? I almost feel like there's so much exposition and new characters being thrown at us that the plot feels a little lost right now...a lot of set up. I was hoping for a stronger start, but I can't wait to see where it's heading.

We should definitely have a discussion post every month too!
Gate 7: Hana
Translation by me and firendenki . Our first language is neither English nor Japanese, so I apologize for any mistakes.

edit: I translated "dairokutenmaou" as Demon Lord of the Sixth Heaven. It was translated as Mara in other translations but Mara just reminds me of the penis on wheels from Persona.
